PHS One-Act Play advances to bi-district competition

The Plainview High School Theatre Department’s one-act play,  “Twelve Angry Jurors” by Reginald Rose, advanced to bi-district competition following the District 3 AAAAA UIL OAP (One-Act Play) competition held at Amarillo College on March 10.

Three of the PHS cast members earned district recognition. Isaac McMickings was named Best Actor, Sawyer Tirey was named Outstanding Stage Manager; and Alexis Shedd was named to the All-Star Cast.

Eight area school districts competed in the district competition for one of three spots advancing to the bi-district competition.  Also advancing are Canyon-Randall High School’s A Midsummer Night’s Dream” and Amarillo High School’s “Dark Road.”

According to the UIL website, the One-Act Play Contest was founded in 1927 and is the largest high school play production contest in the world. More than 14,000 Texas high school students in more than 1,200 plays participate in 300 plus contests beginning in March and culminating in a three-day, 40-production State Meet One-Act Play Contest.

The bi-district competition will be held on March 22 at Amarillo College.  The PHS actors performance will begin at 12:00 p.m.
