PHS NJROTC takes 1st place at Texas Tech Drill Meet

The Plainview High School Navy Junior ROTC earned top honors in unarmed drill at a five-way meet held at Texas Tech University on Saturday, February 25.

The meet, sponsored by the Texas Tech Air Force ROTC "Sabre Flight" unit, hosted five JROTC programs from Texas and New Mexico.

A nine-person, all female, unarmed drill team lead by PHS junior Trinidad Valdez took top honors.  Members of the drill team in addition to Valdez are Andrea Arredondo, Katelyn Baeza, Hannah Cardy, Isabel Castillo, Esparanza Chavez, Kyla Finch, Lily Garcia, Salisa Gonzalez, Zoe Medina, and Trinidad Valdez.

The Bulldogs female, four-person Color Guard team - Lily Garcia (captain), Trinidad Valdez, Salisa Gonzalez, and Isabel Castillo -  earned third place honors.  

Lily Garcia  was awarded second place in individual drill as the next-to-the-last cadet to be eliminated from an initial pool of 36 "best of the best" cadets from the five competing schools.

The Cannon Air Force Base Honor Guard out of Clovis, NM served as competition judges.

 PHS NJROTC next performs at Caprock HS in Amarillo on March 25th, to end their drill meet season.
